It would seem that the various manufacturers are really gunning for the low end segment of the smartphone industry. Oppo has recently unveiled the Oppo R6007 which is a smaller version of the Oppo Find 7. This adds another smartphone competitor to the likes of the Acer Liquid Jade, Xiaomi Redmi and Motorola Moto G. For those hoping for a QHD display and a killer camera similar to that of the Find 7, the specs for the R6007 have been scaled down as well, resulting in a device that is somewhat similar to its compatriots.
Some similar specs that the R6007 possesses to the above mentioned smartphones would be 1GB RAM, 4.7-inch 720p screen, 2,140 mAh battery and 8GB internal storage. The 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera is nothing to write home about, but the support for expandable memory up to 128GB and 4G makes it an interesting budget device. The R6007 will be powered by a quad core 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and runs on Oppo’s Color OS (4.3 Jelly Bean).
Pricewise, the Oppo R6007 is expected to retail for $288 (1,799 CNY). Unfortunately as of now, the R6007 is to be released in China on June 3. Colors available will be black or white and it remains to be seen whether it will be released internationally. When compared to its closest competitor in terms of expandable storage and overall specs, the HTC One Mini 2‘ s price tag of $715 makes the R6007 rather attractive. However, if 4G support and expandable are not needed, Redmi and the Moto G look to be a better choice as they are priced at $130 and $179 respectively. Ultimately, the availability of the Oppo R6007 worldwide and pricing will determine how well accepted or competitive it is compared to its budget friendly brethren.
