Many of you may have heard of Minuum’s keyboard, it’s a very small keyboard, in fact all the letters are in one row. Which many people think it’d be hard to use on a device that’s not a tablet – I’ve actually never used it myself – but people rave about how great this keyboard really is. Today, Minuum announced that they are bringing their keyboard to the Moto 360 – which we have heard rumors that it’ll be announced and given out at Google I/O tomorrow. Imagine using Minuum on a display that’s a circle, that’s definitely going to be a challenge for a lot of people, right?
“…But why would smart watches even need a keyboard, you might ask?
Simple: as useful as voice recognition might be for some situations, it will always remain insufficient when it comes to noisy environments and private message replies. One of the best use cases of the smart watch is the quick message reply when in a meeting, or in class; and I’m sure your boss/teacher wouldn’t be too pleased with you talking to your watch. And don’t get us started on URL/password entry…”
That answers that question. It’s interesting to see all of these keyboards making their way to different smartwatches. I mean Fleksy just launched on the Gear 2 earlier this month, and now Minuum is coming to the Moto 360. Wonder when Swiftkey will make its’ debut on a Smartwatch? In case you missed it, you can watch our interview with SwiftKey’s CMO, Joe Braidwood, here. While I wouldn’t want to type to much on a smartwatch, it’s still interesting to see how the experience will really be once all these wearables do finally hit the market. I’m definitely excited to see how it all works though.
