One thing we are sure of is that Samsung is planning on bringing out a new, higher end version of the Galaxy S5. What we do not know is exactly what Samsung will be calling this new device, as we have heard – Galaxy F, Galaxy Prime, and most recently, Samsung Galaxy Alpha. We also have confirmation that on May 29 Samsung applied for the name “Galaxy Alpha” through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). “Alpha” would certainly be a befitting name for the premium smartphone – Alpha, both as a symbol and term, is used to refer to or describe a variety of things, including the first or most significant occurrence of something.
The editor-in-chief of SamMobile tweeted, “However, the device might not be a member of the Galaxy S family. I’m not 100% sure, but this might actually be the GALAXY Alpha.” A tweet in itself is one thing, but also finding out that Samsung has indeed applied for the rights to the name “Galaxy Alpha,” certainly leads credence to that name…although it may be a completely different device altogether.
When you think about it, the name is the least important piece of the puzzle of this upgraded Galaxy S5 device – we want to know what the design and specifications are of the Galaxy F, Prime, or Alpha. The latest @Evleaks (shown on the main picture) seem to indicate a brushed metal back, although it could be constructed similar to the LG G3. Whatever its name is, we have to assume that it will have the newest QHD 2560 x 1440 resolution and a 5.2-inch display. Rumors also say that it may contain the latest Exynos 5 Octa CPU – probably to get it out of the Snapdragon 801/805 dilemma – and an Intel LTE modem.
Rumors also put the release in late June or July, nudging it very close to the Galaxy Note 4’s time to shine in the Fall. One has to wonder exactly what is going on in Samsung’s design and marketing department. They keep coming out with so many different models – some of which never even make it to our shores – as if they cannot decide exactly what to do, so they’ll do a little bit of everything and see if they can get it right…it is sad to see such a giant of a company, unable to gather up a clear, and precise plan.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think about the names and if you are looking forward to see what Samsung has in store for this upgraded model – or could you care less…as always, we would love to hear from you.
