Confused by the title? Don’t be, because it really is that simple. A carrier in the Netherlands, KPN, held an event that showcased both the company’s focus on LET-Advanced network service, but also, interestingly, the Galaxy S5 Prime. That’s what they called the device that was shown off during the event. That Galaxy S5 Prime had a 1080 by 1920 display, not a 2560 by 1440, display. Do the obligatory double-take on that sentence, and we’re fine.
The Galaxy S5 Prime shown off at the event apparently looked the exact same as the original Galaxy S5 released in April. The Dutch carrier KPN shared during the event that July 1st would be the debut of the LTE-Advanced services they will offer, and the hardware that supports it will follow in the time thereafter.
Let’s run some stuff down though, to make a little more sense of it. The device we know as the Samsung Galaxy F will have a brushed aluminum back, have a 5.3″ screen, and that screen will have the QHD resolution we saw on LG’s G3 earlier this season. The screen has been shown to be both 2560 by 1440 and bigger than the Galaxy S5, so that’s true. The name Galaxy S5 Prime has been used interchangeably with Galaxy F. We do NOT, however, know that the Galaxy S5 Prime is the galaxy F, only guessing this due to the promised improvement in build-materials and internal specifications. The S5 Prime shown off by KPN had the Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor, Adreno 420 GPU, and is labeled the SM-G901F.
The case now rests on finding who was correct, us all for calling the F the S5 Prime, or Samsung and their partners, for passing off higher specs (namely the display) and more differences from the S5 than there will really be as well as giving two names to the same device, BEFORE release.
The Galaxy S5 Prime and Galaxy F are still not confirmed in any way whatsoever besides leaks, however credible. The appearance of the S5 Prime could mean that it has a slight spec bump, to allow for the faster LTE-Advanced network, but we still don’t know much of anything for sure about the reasoning behind the possible two-device future before the Galaxy Note 4 event that is likely to happen in September, or when Samsung will officially announce either of these two, or even offer a clarification.
