Rumors are suggesting that the Nokia X, the first Android powered Nokia device could be looking at getting a follow up pretty soon here, with reports stating that we would see Microsoft unveil this next iteration of the Nokia X in the coming weeks. That suggests that we’ll hear about the phone officially before July, or at the least in the very beginning of July. While the Nokia X does run Android it is running a heavily forked version of the mobile platform so it looks like nothing you’d expect an Android device to look like, and the Nokia X2 is rumored to be the same so no one should expect to see a Nokia device come shipped with the Android we know and love running on it. The Nokia X also doesn’t have the Play Store on it nor will the rumored Nokia X2, and it is also said to be a device that will target emerging markets.
A few units of the Nokia X2 are said to already be undergoing testing in India where they have reportedly been shipped, and according to the source the device is powered by fairly similar specs as the first model, supporting the statement that it will be an entry level device for emerging markets. The rumored specs are as follows: A dual-core snapdragon processor that clocks at 1.2 GHz and comes with 1GB of RAM, and has 4GB of internal storage space. Future users of this device would be interacting with a 4.3-inch display with a WVGA resolution and is said to be listed with the model number RM-103, coming with a 5MP rear camera and VGA front camera.
The Nokia X has only been out a short period of time and already Microsoft is looking to update it with a new device, and while most of the specs are relatively the same, there are a couple changes to the hardware, namely the screen reported to get the slight bump up in size and the RAM being doubled up from 512MB on the original model. Even if this new Nokia X comes with a forked version someone will undoubtedly bring root to it with a custom ROM at some point after its release, something that has already been done for the original Nokia X model.
