Rumor: Google Interested In Buying Songza For As Much As $15 million

Not even mere days ago we reported that Google may have been looking into buying up Spotify streaming music service or one of the ones that’s been around the longest, Pandora. A new report today from The New York Post claims that Google may actually be getting to ready to buy Songza, another streaming music service and application that provides a great outlet for you to listen to you favorite songs and stream everything from either your desktop, laptop, or mobile device. The report only states that Google is interested in it and not they have actually placed any bids to buy them out. Still, the possibility that they may be looking at Songza as a potential buy to more than likely beef up their own offering with Play Music All Access isn’t too far fetched given the other rumors about Spotify and Pandora.

The question now is, will Google be looking to buy up just one of these competing services or more than one? Songza has been around for quite a while as well and they have a great curating system for the music. They have plenty of subscribers with 5.5 million active users  and their application on Android has anywhere from 1 to 5 million downloads, so it’s safe to say they know what they’re doing and people like what they have to offer. You can have anything from custom made playlists from proclaimed music experts to choosing songs to listen to based of what your mood might be or what you’re doing or where you are, like singing in the shower for example. The music curation is actually pretty in depth and offers some ways to grab songs with completely unconventional methods, something that Play Music All Access still lacks. That’s not to say that it isn’t a great service though, and I personally still subscribe to it and love it. Which makes it even better for me if this deal goes through, as we’d likely see plenty of the loved features and functionality of Songza come to Play Music All Access in some way, shape, or form.

The NYP states that Google is potentially looking to spend as much as $15 million to buy up Songza, although there is no mention of whether or not Songza will accept this amount or not, or if the interest even exists. If a potential Songza acquisition by Google does go through, it’s also unclear what the terms of the deal would entail although information like that would most likely come up after things are finalized. For the music lovers out there that use Play Music All Access, if this rumor turned reality the service should get some nice upgrades.
