The electronic giant Samsung is getting into the video service with their latest acquisition. The TNW2012 Startup winner, Shelby.tv, announced on their blog today that their team has joined Samsung Electronics. To give you a little background history on the startup, Shelby.tv built a video curation service that grabs content from video sites such as YouTube, Hulu, Vimeo, and videos that your friends share on social media, to create a custom “channel” for its users. The service also tracks your likes and dislikes to build and customize your channel for an even better experience. “We started this company four years ago to change the way we discover and enjoy video. We didn’t just write code though. We also built a brand that became synonymous with video discovery. We worked with world-class investors and mentors. We built a team of fantastic people – some of the best in the business – who loved working with each other day in, and day out” Shelby.tv said in their blog post.
According to Shelby.tv, Samsung wants to create its very own curated video service. “Our team is excited to develop new technology to meet these challenges as part of Samsung Electronics. Working with Samsung Electronics means we’ll have the resources to start fresh, building products that change the way we watch and discover our favorite content, now and long into the future,” the startup said as they neared their farewells to all of its users. The curated video service implied their excitement about the new future ahead of them and gave lots of love and thank you’s to all of its users.
Shelby.tv will soon be widning down their operations as part of their acquisition by Samsung. In their blog post, Shelby.tv adds that they know that their users have spent a lot of time building an archive of their favorite videos. So to help users in the transition, the startup posted an instructional page that will help users export all of their favorite videos. Users have until July 1st to dig through their archives and export all of their valuables.
