We already knew that the Samsung Galaxy S5 in Copper Gold and Electric Blue has been available on TELUS for some time, and Rogers and Bell were promising it on June 5 and have now delivered. The new “glamour” colors join the standard Charcoal Black and Shimmery White. WIND Mobile and SaskTel are also going live with the Galaxy S5 new colors, as well as Quebec based Videotron who released the Gold and Blue colors and on the east coast, Halifax based Eastlink has added only the Copper Gold version. So now, all four color options are sweeping across Canada, although prices vary between the different networks.
Bell is currently selling any color Galaxy S5 for $230 on a two-year contract or $700 no-term, while Rogers is asking for $250 on a two-year term. WIND Mobile is charging $229 on contract and $729 with no contract, and while SaskTel is only $179 on a two-year contract, but the same $729 on a no term.
We still do not know how well the Galaxy S5 is selling in Canada or if the new colors will help increase sales and with the talk of a “premium” Galaxy S5 coming soon, some customers may decide to wait. It may be called the Galaxy S5 Prime, Galaxy S5 Premium, Galaxy F, or a few other names. However, with a Snapdragon 805, 3GB of RAM, and a QHD display, it may be worth the wait, although I can imagine what Rogers, Bell and TELUS will charge for that device.
The Galaxy S5 is still a very solid device and certainly holds its own against the competition with its 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution giving us 432 pixels-per-inch. The Snapdragon 801 processor is clocked at 2.5GHz and works with 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot to add up to additional 128GB. The main shooter is 16MP and a 2MP FFC for video chatting and selfies. Samsung added a fingerprint scanner and a Heart Rate Monitor.
