Since April 1, we have known for certain that Samsung was introducing their new Galaxy Tab 4 line of tablets in 7, 8, and 10.1-inch versions. The specifications are not that exciting, but for someone that wants a good quality tablet at a reasonable price, the Galaxy Tab 4 line may be exactly what you need. A couple of weeks ago we found out that Samsung, in an effort to bring Android to into the education market, announced the new Galaxy Tab 4 running Google Play for Education for the classroom – a more rugged version wrapped in extra plastic to take the bumps and bruises one might find in the classroom. It is aimed at the K-12 grade levels and is the 10.1 version and is being sold through Samsung’s distributors at a cost of $369.99.
Now we find that a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Active trademark was filed in Norway on April 30 – many times companies file trademarks in a different country, especially if they are hoping to catch their competitors off-guard or sometimes simply to trick them into thinking that is what direction they are headed to next. Once a trademark is approved in another country, it makes the process much faster in the U.S. Whatever Samsung’s reasons are, the screen shot below will verify the process. Could it be that Samsung is actually going to start offering the IP67 certification for dust and water on their tablets, or is it possible that is just for the education version of the Galaxy Tab 4. The 10.1 version to be sold for K-12 grade classrooms already has a rugged outside, much like the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. It would also make sense that a classroom tablet could benefit from the water and dust protection that IP67 certification would afford.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if this ‘Active’ designation will be for another Galaxy Tab 4 device or the educational model that was already leaked. All of the Galaxy Tab 4’s are powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, coupled to 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (there is an 8GB option on the 7-inch model) and a microSD card slot. The cameras are 3MP shooters and 1.3MP front-facing cameras. The displays are all 1280 x 800 resolution and all models will have Wi-Fi as well as a 3G and 4G model.
