Samsung has been increasing its foothold in the wearable technologies market with each passing year. The original Samsung Galaxy Gear was released alongside the Galaxy Note III back in fall of 2013. This past April, Samsung showed off the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit along with the new Galaxy S5 flagship. The issue with these wrist-worn devices, other than the Samsung-only connection options, is the limited quantity of apps available for them, other than the stock apps which are companions to their full-fledged counterparts on your smartphone. This will likely be fixed in the coming months, because of a lovely little tidbit of information found within the depths of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO for short). What do we have to share? The Gear Store and the Samsung Gear Store. The important part to note? These two are linked to Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, and are live, not dead, trademarks. They were both filed for on the 16th of this month, and look to be, based on the list of ‘Goods and Services’, a storefront (digital or physical is not directly specified, but most likely digital) for Gear gear. The list mentions flip covers for phones and tablets, peripheral wearable computers, downloading electronic games/software applications, among the numerous other items for sale in this store. Something to note though, the list covers accessories and services for phones, tablets, computer monitors, televisions, printers, digital cameras, media players, and wearables, so this may be the new name for some new venture or compilation of Samsung-ness. We have not, as of yet, heard any announcements regarding Samsung’s new wearable movement, even though Google I/O is coming up in less than a week and Samsung is rumored to be working on an Android Wear device as well as their normal Gear wearables. So, what may come of these two trademarks is up in the air (at least regarding announcement date and how exactly they will interface with devices) still, but we do know that something is brewing within Samsung, at least in regards for United States business and plans. Check out the source for yourself to read the full list and trademark listing(s) if you feel the need. If not, stay tuned for more and keep your eyes peeled.
