Samsung has two main lines of smartphones among their devices’ numerous ranks: the Galaxy S line and the Galaxy Note line. The S5 was 2014’s Galaxy S flagship, with its impressive internals and features, and the Galaxy Note line is gearing up to get updated this fall with the next iteration, the Galaxy Note 4 (unless Samsung decides to do something really strange with names) with further upgraded specifications from last year’s Galaxy Note 3.
So far, we know what it has inside of it, thanks to a leak from AnTuTu Benchmark, which showed that the Note 4 will have both a Snapdragon and Exynos version, as do many Samsung devices, a 2560 by 1440 px display (QHD = 4x 720p), 16 and 32GB internal storage options, and, oddly enough, only 2GB of RAM instead of last year’s 3GB on the Note 3. What does all that have to do with this? What’s new to share? Photos. These aren’t confirmed to be the Note 4, but from the looks of it, it might be the next iteration of the Note line, based on the evolving of a squared-off, large screen phone, with a camera and flash on the back, at the top, in the middle, which this one has.
The back also, if you look closely, resemble the faux stitched-leather backed Note 3 of yesteryear, but dropped the stitching to keep the finish looking rather matte and nice. The back material looks like it has the same surface feel as the LG Nexus 5 does, but, seeing as Samsung always tries to ‘premium things up’, it is unlikely that the back will be just a matte black snap-shut design as seen on the Oppo Find 7A and OnePlus One. The one thing we don’t see, which is probably intentional, is the signature (pardon the pun) stylus of the Note line of devices. We also, as expected, see no Samsung branding anywhere in the shots. But we can see the placement of the headphone jack, on the top left where Samsung likes it as well as the front-facing camera on the top-right of the phone’s display, also where Samsung likes to put it. Well, we will have to wait for more leaks or IFA 2014 in Berlin in September to see what this device and the Note 4 (if they aren’t one and the same, that is). But so far, we know the processors, storage, RAM, screen resolution and a few other things, but we don’t yet know the camera megapixel count, though it is likely to be higher than the S5’s 16mp from April.
