We Could Be Seeing A New Android Logo On The Way

Google is nothing if not a company that embraces change, but them like any of us, can get stuck in our ways and cling on to things that are working for us from time to time. Still, Google has never been one to stay stagnant for very long as they are always trying to innovate and bring new things to the technological universe that we all live in. One thing that could be on the ballot for a facelift, and if so it would be joining a host of other Googley things that have been getting recent design changes, is the Android logo itself. Think back to the days of the original HTC G1 launch on T-mobile. The very first Android phone to ever hit the market commercially. The particular and recognizable typeface that we all know and have come to associate with the Android mobile platform could be changing, it could very well be growing up, evolving into something new.

This is all of course merely speculation at this point, as is anything that has no official confirmations but let’s look at a few facts, things we do know for sure. One, is simply something that we stated above. For as long as Android has been a “thing”, the font used for the Android logo on anything it was pasted onto has remained exactly the same since its inception. Completely unchanged. As also mentioned above Google is never one to sit on things very long without giving them some kind of a design refresh, which is evident of things like the recent UI switch to apps like Google+, gmail, the new Dialer and Contacts apps, as wellas design evolution of the stock Android UI and even something as simple as the font used within the Android stock UI. Although Roboto has been the font of choice for a few software versions which is more than a couple years now, it was different before.

Another thing we know is that this particular typeface for the Android logo is said to be part of the boot animation that can be found on the upcoming LG G Watch, which is LG’s Android Wear smartwatch and may very well be the first Android device that we see, although there should be at least one other coming this summer, which we all know as the Moto 360. With Google’s new exertion of the “powered by Android” message on phones as the user powers on currently new and future devices, which is a change in itself to help Google gain back a little bit of control over their platform, it shouldn’t be too outlandish or forward to presume that they might want a fresh new logo to go along with changes such as these. New designs for some of or most of their core apps, even if we haven’t seen all of them yet, and a new established control(in a sense) over the Android mobile OS, is just as good of a reason as any to warrant a new logo is it not? It’s possible that we could very well be looking at the new face of Android(at least when it comes to the logo)which ironically enough seems that it will be making its debut on the “face” of a watch.
