While Google’s annual developer conference has the main event live streamed, and select sidebars as well, there are parts of Google I/O that don’t exactly happen at I/O. One example of this would be the announcement from Sensopia. As an extension of Google I/O, Sensopia announced that MagicPlan will be launched on Google’s Project Tango devices as well as tablets.
MagicPlan is a mapping app developed by Sensopia that maps the interior of some public locations. Using a floor plan and any documentation that shows layouts, MagicPlan essentially brings maps indoors. An example of this would be mapping your own home. You can use MagicPlan to easily create a floorplan of your entire home, which could come in handy when selling, or remodeling. Sensopia said, “MagicPlan automates the capture of room measurement, shape, and documentation-creating a comprehensive floor plan and a map of any indoor space.”
MagicPlan is currently available for iOS and Android, but has now partnered with Google to bring it to Project Tango devices and tablets. Sensopia was invited by Google to work together to accomplish this and Sensopia saw a great opportunity. Using all of the available tools from Google at their disposal, Sensopia plans on improving on MagicPlan for future releases.
According to Sensopia, working with Google opens up the door to great possibilities. Though there has been no word as to when we might see the improvements made to the app, Sensopia did tell us a bit about what they’re working towards. “First, it will allow switching from floor to ceiling corners automatically. Although it is possible in the current version, it requires measuring the ceiling height with the device prior to the capture. Second, it will free the user from the current procedure, allowing movement in the room. In other words with Project Tango a user can freely move towards a hidden corner to see it.” Along with the announcement, Sensopia uploaded a little demo video of the app. From inside the Project Tango office, Sensopia CEO Pierre Gaubil and Program Manager at Google Ryan Hickman discuss their goals for MagicPlan.
