The Sony team have been notorious in previous years for not bringing their top[-tier devices, namely any of the Xperia line of smartphone, to the United States, but according to both Sony in their 2014 strategies meeting a few weeks ago and some leaks from our good friend @evleaks, we know that Sony are already on the case.
We saw @evleaks’s post some shots of the supposed Xperia Z2 smartphone, branded with Verizon’s checkmark 4G LTE branding, as is customary for their devices nowadays, and we were all rather excited for the release of an Xperia device in the U.S. and on the largest carrier to boot. Do note that T-Mobile does have the Xperia Z1S, a variant of last year’s Xperia Z1 flagship from Sony, but none have come stateside since that one. Here comes some news that will surely please Sony enthusiasts and Verizon customer alike.
This morning, @evleaks shared yet another gorgeous nugget of Sony stuff, this time showing off yet another Xperia Z2 device. Today’s leak, instead of the smartphone, showcases the front and back of the Sony Xperian Z2 Tablet, branded with none other than Verizon’s logo and 4G LTE markings. What does that men, boys and girls? It means that Verizon may do a dual reveal of the availability of both the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet later this summer. All this is still just leaks and rumors, so be sure to keep your ears and eyes open to catch the latest.
For those interested in the Xperia Z2 Tablet, here are the specifications, to either seal the deal or really get you attention. First, and most obviously, the tablet has a 10.1″ 1920 by 1200 screen (slightly higher number of pixels compared to full HD with its 1920 by 1080), comes with 2GB of RAM, used by the Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor running at a hasty 2.3 Ghz, and Android 4.4, Kit Kat, installed out of the box. What set this device apart? It comes with Sony’s tougher specifications in dust and water resistance. The Xperia Z2 Tablet has a rating of IP55 and IP58 for water-resistance (meaning that it is sealed against dust with its ports and flaps covered/closed, and that it can be submerged under more than 1 meter of water without harmful effects). Remember, Sony recommends not having it submerged for over half an hour (30 minutes) to be absolutely sure it remains fully and perfectly functional.
