Sponsored App Review: Bright Weather

Description: From the same development team that gave Android some of the best looking widgets out there with Beautiful Widgets comes Bright Weather, a new weather app to help you get the essential facts about the weather for the day and the rest of the week. Aimed to be one of the simplest, yet fully featured weather apps for Android, Bright Weather makes it easy to take a look at what the weather is doing near you in a good-looking app. It’s not all about looks though, as Bright Weather features UV indexes, sunrise and sunset, weekly forecasts and more. If you’re looking for a new weather app that’s fully featured but also good looking, Bright Weather could be what you’ve been after. Let’s a take a closer look.

How it Works: You’ll need to download Bright Weather from the Play Store, after that’s out of the way you can check out the weather near you.

By swiping to the left and hitting a week day, you can easily take a look at more info like wind speeds as well as the days at a glance.

You can add more locations by simply searching for them, it’s all done for you and finds towns and cities nice and quickly.

There are a pair of widgets included in Bright Weather, including one with a clock if you like.

As you might expect from LevelUp, you can easily customize the look and feel of the widget, with some quick customizations such as the color.

For those wishing to send a little love back home or show off their nice sunset or warm weather, you can take a photo with an overly of the forecast. Excellent for your summer vacation.

Opinion: I’m a real sucker for minimal, clean design and Bright Weather hits me in the sweet spot. We’ve seen good-looking weather apps before, but Bright Weather takes cues from the best of them and then creates its own look and feel. It uses Bing wallpapers, which despite my distaste for the search engine, works really well here and the blur effect is subtle and adds a nice touch. The overall look and feel is minimal, with a nice use of color. I especially liked how simple and subtle it was to pick up advanced features like the sunrise and sunset and UV indexes, after all not everyone will want to see this info, but it should only be a swipe or flick away, which is just how Bright Weather has done it.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – Bright Weather doesn’t lag at all and you won’t find yourself waiting around to take a look at the weather.
  • Features (5/5) – On the face of things, this is another weather app putting style ahead of substance, but that’s not the case as there are all features you’d expect from a more focused weather app hiding underneath that pretty face.
  • Theme (5/5) Bright Weather takes a lot of the cues we all love about Yahoo! Weather and co. and brings them all together into a good-looking weather app. It’s simple, it’s colorful and it’s easy-to-use.
  • Overall (5/5) – Sure, there’s a lot of weather apps already available for Android, but Bright Weather is right up there with the best of them, it’s a polished, good-looking, easy-to-use weather app that will fulfill your weather needs.

Pros

  • Looks great, without being overly simply.
  • Advanced features like UV Indexes, wind speed are included and easy to view.
  • Ability to take a photo to show off the weather near you is a nice touch, and great for those that travel frequently.
  • Includes widgets to complete the excellent look and feel that you’d expect from the folks behind Beautiful Widgets.

Cons

  • Widgets can feel a little clunky compared to Beautiful Widgets.
  • Changing the wallpaper to a photo of your home town would be a nice touch, but this is coming in a new update.

Conclusion: An excellent weather app that’s more than just a pretty face, Bright Weather is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a simple, yet feature-full weather app. By taking elements from other apps and creating its own, authentic look Bright Weather offers ease of use with all the minimalist charm we’ve all come to love. There are some widgets on offer, as well as an overlay on offer to take photos with. If you like pretty apps and you care about the weather, then this is something you’ll love. Sure, we can just look out of the window, but what about two hours from now, or tomorrow?
