Ever heard of Vivo? They are the largest telecommunications company in Brazil. Did you know they made phones? We don’t hear much in the U.S. about what they are doing in the rest of the world, but this is something you might want to pay attention to.
The upcoming Vivo Xshot is one heck of high-end smartphone. It was announced last month, and now it has a release date. The Xshot is up on the company’s Weibo page with an official release date of June 10th. That’s less than a week away. The Xshot is built around a great camera. There are two variants making their way to market. Both of them have a rear-facing 13-megapixel shooter with a F1.8 lens, and an 8-megapixel front camera. In addition to that, they have a 5.2 inch screen with a 1080p display, Hi-Fi sound, and a 2,600 mAh battery.
The two devices are different in their processors, RAM, internal storage, and price. Vivo is releasing an “Elite” version for ¥2996 ($479) and an “Ultimate” version for ¥3498 ($559). The Xshot Elite has a Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Ultimate will come with a Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. These devices are on the high side when it comes to price for phones released in China, but they will be some of the highest specced phones on the market, in China or anywhere else. Unfortunately, they’re only launching in China.
Vivo is also known as Telefonica Brasil and operates multiple brands including Vivo TV and Vivo Movel. Not to be confused with the Jennifer Lopez-backed Viva Movil, Vivo Movel is Vivo’s mobile service. The company runs 3G and 4G networks, cable and DSL broadband operations, satellite and cable television services, and landline telephone services under different brands. They launched the Vivo Xplay 3S in December of last year. It was the world’s first smartphone with a 2560 x 1440, 6-inch display. Vivo is continuing to push into the smartphone market with the Vivo Xshot Ultimate and Elite.
