Google showed off the developer preview of Android L, the next version of Android, and we as Android lovers were like “WHAT I need this on my device now!” Sadly, only the Nexus 5 and 2013 Nexus 7 are lucky enough to have access to it officially. But, as we in Android ownership know, nothing stays ‘exclusive’ for long. And Android L, or at least its interface and theme, are no different. On Friday, PixCM on XDA Developers, released to us his brand new theme titled Android L! Yeah, in two days, the theme from L has already been replicated and is available for download right now. First, to clarify it requires that your phone or tablet’s ROM support/have a theme chooser, because this is only a theme. Thus, you also will need root (and a voided warranty in doing so). You’ll need to have access to installing apks from ‘unknown sources’, and a file manager to install the apk for the theme.
So, all you need are those few things, and you’re ready to go with an Android L-ooking device. Things to be aware of are the limits of the theme. The theme reaches all things that the system can access, like the wallpapers (home and lockscreen), fonts, boot animations, ringtones, and notifications. It doesn’t include the Android L keyboard, but you can download a substitute from the Play Store. Android L, the real thing not the theme, is going to feature some different color schemes and color emphasis, as well as the system-wide adherence to the new Material design that was introduced alongside it at I/O. The design will showcase the new lockscreen, which is centered on notifications, the new notification panel, which is completely redone, and the quick settings panel, which is no longer on the opposite side of the notification panel and is instead above it.
If you want some Android L in the meantime, then head over to XDA to get the download, and be sure to thank the dev, but also, an just as important as thanking, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for updates to the theme, since the most up to date version right now is v3, so expect more updates to it.
