No Wireless Charging for the LG G3 in Korea and the US

The LG G3 is already available in Korea, which is LG’s homeland, but we still don’t have it over here in the US just yet. Although that should change in the next few weeks. We saw a few accessories for the LG G3 which were for wireless charging – qi wireless charging to be specific. But according to The Verge, it appears that the US and Korean variants will not have wireless charging capabilities. Which kind of sucks. Especially for those of us that already have a ton of wireless chargers laying around the house. It makes it much easier to keep our phone charged up.

It appears that the reason why we don’t have wireless charging here in the US is due to the carriers. It’s evidently part of LG’s agreement with the carriers in those countries to not include Qi Wireless charging. Which is bogus, in my opinion. However, LG has gotten around this, kind of like how Samsung has. With the QuickCircle flip-cover case, the LG G3 will get wireless charging. So it’s not the end of the world, but for those of us that don’t like flip covers, it does suck. However, I’m sure there will be some backs for the G3 that will enable it since it does have a removable back cover to remove the battery, microSD and micro SIM cards.

So while the LG G3 did fail to get another check on the checklist for the best device, it’s still fixable, much like how Samsung’s devices get wireless charging. And as much grief as we give Samsung about buying an extra back cover for wireless charging, we’ll be doing the same for LG. Although we may give more grief to the carriers if this is part of the agreement, as I’m sure that Samsung’s agreement  is similar.
