Acer is certainly coming out with a revamp of the C720 Chromebook soon, but it also appears that they have two other Chromebooks in the works, one of which supposedly features an Nvidia Tegra K1 CPU on the inside to power the beast. The other is a little less surprising, as Acer looks to be releasing another Chromebook that features an Intel CPU, more specifically an Intel Celeron Bay Trail processor. Both Chromebooks, the Acer C730, and the Acer CB5 are expected to launch sometime later this year although there is still no official date. If you have been holding out on Chromebooks for the time being, you may want to make note of these two.
The Acer CB5 is what would appear to be Acer’s powerhouse Chromebook, although real world performance could be completely off from what I’m personally expecting out of a product that carries an Nvidia chip inside. Powered by the quad-core Tekra K1 with 192 graphics cores, the CB5 will have a 13.3-inch display and will come with two different resolutions, one for each model that Acer plans to release. The first model will house 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space, and we’d assume this is the model that will have the 1366 x 768 pixel density. The second model will house 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and most likely come with the higher resolution display of 1920 x 1080 pixel density. The HD model of the CB5 is reported to have up to 14 hours of battery life, while the full HD model is said to have a couple hours less at 12 hours of battery life. You can also expect the usual connection stuff here like WiFi 802.11ac and and HDMI port along with your USB port, although it isn’t listed how many and whether USB 3.0 or 2.0, but we’d expect 3.0 and possibly one USB 2.0 port as well.
The Intel model, the Acer C730, features the Intel Celeron Bay Trail processor, and there will be two models of this Chromebook also. One with 2GB of RAM and one with 4GB, and one will carry 16GB of internal storage while the other has 32GB. They will each also have different Bay Trail CPUs, with one being powered by the N2830 CPU and one powered by the N2930 CPU. This one is also equipped with WiFi 802.11ac and has a standard HDMI port, along with one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port and will be sporting an 11.6-inch display on both models, and it’s said that users can expect about 8 hours of battery life out of either version. So far there is no word on exact launch dates or what we could be looking at cost wise for any of these new Chromebook offerings from Acer, but here’s hoping the Tegra K1 model is too much.
