The LG G3 has been available here in the US for about 2 weeks now – if you’re on AT&T or Sprint. And well it’s time to dive in and tear this thing apart. Today, we’re going to talk about customizing the navigation buttons on the LG G3. Which is something you can only really do on devices that use softkeys, like the LG G3, Nexus 5, HTC One M8, etc. It’s actually really easy to do. Here’s how you do it:
- Pull down the notification panel
- Tap on the Gear icon in the top right corner – that will take you to settings.
- Now tap on the “Display” tab (unless you have it set to list layout, then scroll down to “Home Touch Buttons”)
- From here you can change the layout, the background color and the transparency.
You are able to add more buttons like a notification pull down button, QuickMemo+, QSlide and Dual Window. But you can only have a total of 5 buttons down there. So you can’t just go in and add everything that LG has given us. You are also able to change the button background. Which on the T-Mobile version we have white, white gradient, black and black gradient. I know on the LG G2 last year a few variants had a pink background. Additionally you can hide the home touch buttons in certain apps, which is great for when you want that full screen experience. To bring them back, just swipe up from the bottom in the apps that you have chosen to hide them in.
That’s just how easy it is to customize the navigation buttons in the LG G3. It’s one of those features you don’t really think about, but is nice to have. And it’s something that LG – and anyone else that uses softkeys – has over Samsung who sticks with capacitive buttons still.
