Today, the Chrome team has updated their Chromecast app – you know the one you use to connect your Chromecast to your network, rename it, reboot it, etc – and now has the ability to cast your phone or tablet’s screen straight to your TV. We’ve been waiting for this ability for quite some time now and finally it’s here. While a few ROMs, like CyanogenMod, already have it baked in, it’s nice to see it as part of the app from Google now. It is in beta, which is kind of what we expected, so expect some bugs. Once more it’s only supporting Android 4.4.1 and higher right now on a few devices as well.
Casting your screen to your TV will work in the Chromecast app on the following devices: Nexus 4 , Nexus 5 , Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 10 , Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 (2014), HTC One M7, LG G Pro2, LG G2 and LG G3. So if you have one of those devices you’ll be able to cast from your phone to your TV without using any other app other than the Chromecast app. So now you don’t have to worry about your favorite app using Chromecast or not, even though it’ll still be appreciated.
“Now, anything on your Android device will appear on the TV. You can share photos stored on your phone with a group of friends, or scope out the scenery for your next family vacation together on the big screen using Google Earth.”
The updated version of Chromecast is version 1.7, and should be rolling out to the Google Play Store right now. So you can go ahead and get started casting your smartphone’s screen to your TV, very simply and easily. How many of you are excited to try out this feature?
