UNU was nice enough to send over a couple of battery packs for us to review. We’re looking at the 10,000mAh and 3,000mAh Ultrapak Fast-charging batteries. They claim that they can charge an iPhone in under 15 minutes. But then again an iPhone battery is pretty small, so I was figuring around 30-45 minutes for my OnePlus One which has a 3100mAh battery inside. So obviously the 3,000mAh battery pack wouldn’t be able to charge up my phone, however the 10,000mAh battery pack would. And it did charge up my OnePlus One in about 45-40 minutes. Which is still quite fast as it typically takes about 2 hours or more to go from 15% to 100%. And as you can see from the pictures below, the top and bottom of the Ultrapak’s are fingerprint magnets.
There’s not much difference between these two, aside from the capacity. The 10,000mAh Ultrapak goes for $99.99, and the 3,000mAh Ultrapak for $59.99. They are more expensive than most because they can charge so quickly and have an LED display. So there’s a display on the front of the battery pack – there’s a picture of it down in the gallery below – that will show you the percentage of juice left, and also show you how long before it’s fully charged. On the smaller, 3,000mAh battery pack we’ve got one USB port that outputs 5V-2.1A, and on the larger one we’ve got two ports that do 5V-2.1A and 5V-1A. So you’ll be able to charge your phone pretty quickly with these 2.1a ports.
These are quite nice, and rather small in size, battery packs. Which make them pretty portable and easy to carry around. However, the only downside is that the way to charge these battery packs does not use a microUSB port. Which kind of sucks. As just about every other battery pack does so. Which makes it easy as we can use the same cord to charge our phones, tablets, and battery packs. But this one does use a different charging cable, unfortunately.
All in all, I’d definitely recommend these. As I’m sure most of you know, it sucks to walk around with your phone attached to a battery pack. So having it charge up even quicker than normal is a definite plus. And a big reason to pick up these. Although I’d only recommend the 10,000mAh Ultrapak, as the other isn’t going to help much since most of the batteries in our smartphones are larger than that these days.
