Google's Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora Departs For Position With Softbank

Another long time Google employee seems to be leaving the nest(no not that Nest, a metaphorical or figurative nest, so to speak)and moving on to greener pastures. After 10 years of working at Google as the Chief Business Officer, Nikesh Arora will be leaving the search company and taking on the role of the Vice Chairman of Softbank Corp. and the CEO of Softbank Internet and Media. While Nikesh’s departure might seem like something tough to swallow, that could be true of any company who is saying goodbye to a person which they had worked with for so long, as relationships begin to forge and you establish an almost friendship in a way.

Taking over Nikesh’s role at Google for the time being is Omid Kordestani states Larry Page. Omid is Google’s business founder and was the lead of their sales division for many years for those who were unaware. Page states that “Nikesh Arora, our Chief Business Officer, will be leaving Google after ten years at the company to join one of our partners, SoftBank, as Vice Chairman of SoftBank Corp. and CEO of SoftBank Internet & Media. He will join this afternoon’s earnings call as usual. Omid Kordestani, who was our business founder and led our sales teams for many years, will be stepping in to lead our business organization for now.” Page also reminisced about the first time that he met Nikesh, which happened to be at a British Museum because Sergey Brin had apparently thought it was the perfect place for an interview.

Although Google is losing a cherished mentor to many of it’s Googlers, including Larry Page according to his post, Page and Google believe that Omid will be right at home taking over Nikesh’s position as the Chief Business Officer and carrying out the responsibilities that Nikesh once held. There is a strong belief that under Omit’s leadership the team will excel and we have no doubt that will be the case. What remains a mystery at this point is who will take over for Omit permanently when the time comes, and when that time will be as Page stated Omit’s will only be taking over as the Chief Business Officer for the time being.
