Hilton Group to let you unlock your hotel room via your smartphone by the end of 2016

Have you ever been so tired after a flight that you just don’t want to visit the front desk and go through all the procedure in order to get settled into your hotel room? If you have, then this article might interest you.

We live in a smartphone era. For better or for worse we use our smartphones (and technology in general) more often each day. On one hand it’s a bad thing, on the other hand however it makes our lives a lot easier. You’re able to control your light bulbs or your thermostats nowadays with a few taps on your phone, which is of course very convenient. Home security systems are probably going to be big as well, in the time ahead. So why wouldn’t you be able to check into your hotel room by using your smartphone? Well, you should, according to Christopher Nassetta, Hilton’s chief executive. He gave the following statement to Wall Street Journal: “We are giving customers unprecedented choice and control at scale, and in the palm of their hands.”, along with announcing that Hilton Hotels will offer you a chance to use your smartphone as a hotel room key in the near future.

They’re going to start with implementing this technology in 2015 and it should be available in Hilton hotels all around the world by the end of 2016. This will make the whole procedure a lot simpler considering you won’t have to go through the hassle of getting your room key at the reception and it will be especially convenient if there’s a line at the reception. All you’d have to do is have Hilton app on your smartphone and use it when needed. Hilton Hotels already offers check-ins and check-outs via the smartphone/tablet screen in the hotels themselves (U.S. only for now), which is also rather convenient, but they’re planning to step up their game a notch.

I personally am not travelling that often nor have I even been a guest of a Hilton Hotel, but I bet some of you have. This could be a great solution by the Hilton Group, which in all honesty is already seen in some smaller Hotel chains, but this will definitely get this technology more attention than it had up to this point and perhaps make other hotel brands do the same thing in the future.
