HTC Posts $76.5 million in Operating Profit for Q2 2014

HTC had a decent quarter last quarter. They’ve been bleeding money left and right each quarter for about the last two years. But they just posted their numbers for Q2 of the year and it was pretty decent, including $2.2 billion in revenue and $76.5 million in operating profit. Although revenue is down from Q2 2013, compared to this quarter, but their operating profit has gone up. Which is what really matters for them, and somewhat questionable. Bring in less money but make more money. Kinda strange.

While they did turn a profit, the revenue did go down for the past 12 quarters, and that slump is continuing. Which is causing concern for investors, naturally, on the investors call. There’s no word on what the numbers are for devices sold or shipped in the quarter. But one can’t help but wonder if the low-end and mid-range Desire devices have helped them out this quarter, as the HTC One M8 sales has declined a bit.

HTC does have some things to look forward to later this year though. HTC has an event set for August 19th, which should be them announcing the HTC One W8 – essentially the HTC One M8 but with Windows Phone 8.1 on there instead of Android. There’s also the HTC Nexus 8, which has leaked a few times already, and is expected to be available later this year alongside the Nexus 6 and the latest version of Android, Android L.

It’s great to see HTC making a Operating Profit in the quarter, as it’s been a while since they’ve made a profit. But they still need a pretty big recovery, as they’ve been losing money for about 2 years now. How many of you are looking forward to a recovery for HTC? I’m definitely looking forward to them coming back to being on top. Let us know in the comments below.
