Huawei to Sell Special Arsenal Edition of Ascend P7

Premier League Football (or soccer, if you prefer) is big business, and International Business at that. Huawei understands this, as they’ve been an official sponsor of London’s Arsenal Football Club for some time now. What do you do when you have access to a recognized property like a Football Club known the world over? Well, you make a special edition smartphone, of course! Huawei’s Ascend P7 has been on offer for a few months now, but Huawei is giving it the Arsenal makeover in this special edition designed for die-hard fans.

We’re looking at the same hardware here, which means a 5-inch Full HD display, a 1.8 Ghz quad-core CPU with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. On the imaging front, there’s a 13-megapixel camera around the back with an 8-megapixel shooter upfront and at 6.5mm thick, this is a good-looking device encased in Gorilla Glass 3 both on the front and back of the device.

So, what makes the Arsenal edition any different? Well, for a start there’s the familiar Arsenal crest on the rear of the device and there’s some software changes, too. Arsenal themes have been worked into Huawei’s Emotion 3.0 UI and the popular FIFA 14 comes preloaded as well as a new app called Yakatak which aims to keep fans up-to-date of everything that’s happening. These software features include images of Highbury buildings, scenes of the Emirates by day and night, and celebrations of the 2014 FA Cup win as well a working clock widget based on the Arsenal crest.

It’s a 4G LTE device, which means fans can take advantage of 4G speeds on any of the major networks in the UK and this edition shouldn’t cost much more than the original, which is already fairly competitively priced. The question is whether or not a Football Club themed smartphone is a step too far, let us know what you think in the comments below.
