Jobs in the IT area have long provided a good source of income – from managerial to software specific developers. There has always been a ‘battle,’ if you will, between the Android IT jobs and the iOS jobs, with the iOS jobs generally paying better. A new study from Mondo – a company that recruits and places IT workers – took a look at the past year at the 4,000 placements and the salaries they were offered and it looks like the tide may finally be leaning toward the Android IT area. It shows that Android developers saw a 6-percentage salary increase versus the 1-percent rise for iOS developers. This really should come as no surprise as the Android OS continues to grow and dominates the mobile operating systems worldwide – the potential for sales for Android developer’s projects continues to grow.
According to our source, Android developer salaries range from $110,000 to $155,000 and iOS developers range from $105,000 to $155,000. While these two ranges seem very similar (they are) – it is the growth factor of Android from last year that is so impressive. Another trend worth noting is that over the next 12-18 months, more companies are choosing to hire contract employees rather than permanent workers. Another study has shown that up to 17-percent of the IT staffers are contract employees – this could be the desire for fresh ideas in an ever competitive field or it could be a sign of the times to avoid paying health benefits directly to workers.
Obviously, those that rise to Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Security Officer (CSO) are earning the most money – $135,000 to $230,000. However, many other IT jobs, such as Data Warehouse Engineer, Amazon Web Services, .Net Developers and Java/J2EE Developers are also paying very well and have seen a 2 to 5 percent salary increase from a year ago. Where you live also has a bearing on your compensation – lower paying jobs are in areas such as Florida and Dallas, while higher paying jobs are in San Francisco and New York.
It is nice to see that IT jobs, especially those with the Android OS, are growing in both number of jobs and salaries – this rising trend should continue as the use of Android grows around the globe.
