At the end June we did a story about rumors of the new LG G Pro 2 exclusively headed to Verizon as the LG G Vista, carrying the model number LG-VS880. This made sense, especially because the LG G2 was model number VS980 and Verizon’s models from LG typically start with the prefix, ‘VS.’ We also heard rumors of a July 18 release date – well, we know for sure that is not happening. Verizon has never made anything official about the device – but then, that is not unusual for Verizon. Our source’s tipster has updated the launch date to July 31, which just happens to be the day that Verizon’s usually launches its new devices – Thursday.
The tipster was also able to send, what appears to be a photo of an internal Verizon slide along with a few of the G Vista’s details. It does list the July 31 release date and some rather mediocre specifications. The G Vista will have a 5.7-inch display, but only the qHD display – 960 x 540 resolution – meaning it will be a large enough display to view the web when browsing, but certainly a disappointing resolution. The brand of processor is unknown, but the specs suggest it maybe a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 – with quad-cores and clocked at 1.2GHz…now this processor can handle a 720p display, so it may be another model. The device will be powered by a 3,200mAH battery, which should give it very good battery life. The G Vista will have Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box and is Verizon XLTE capable at launch. We do not have a cost of the device yet, but will let you know as soon as we find out any more details.
The design is borrowed from the LG G3 – only with wider side bezels – which means that it is a great looking device and comfortable to hold. It also has its buttons on the back, not the sides of the device…which I thought was strange at first, but after handling the LG G3, I think that I could really get used to the back placement and my friend agrees with me.
The G Vista will also carry some of the software features over from the more expensive LG’s running their Optimus UI, such as Dual Window and Mini View. Dual Window is LG’s version of multitasking by allowing two applications running at the same time of the display – you can adjust the size of each individual window. Mini View will allow you to operate the display with one-hand, specifically, one thumb. With a simple gesture the screen will shrink and actually gravitate towards your palm to have full access with one-hand.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you are looking forward to the LG G Vista on Verizon’s network…as always, we would love to hear from you.
