Motorola have been fairly quiet throughout most of 2014, unless you count the impending launch of the Moto 360 of course, and as the Moto X was launched last summer, it’s getting to the time of year where we expect something new from Motorola. Now under the ownership of Lenovo, we’re expecting the Moto X+1 to be the next big thing from Motorola, and while we’ve seen it leak out a few times in images as well as what could be video footage we’ve not heard much on the Moto X+1 front for a little while. A recent FCC filing for a mystery Moto makes things a little more interesting.
As PhoneArena has noted, there’s not that much info on the device in the FCC filing, with only the physical dimensions – at 2.8-inches (71 mm) wide and 5.58-inches (141.7 mm) tall and 5.87-inches (149 mm) diagonally – which suggest the device could be packing a 5-inch display into its frame. Still, with a model number of 4027 and a software listing of KXB21.34.27 there’s really not much to go on here. Said software version sure seems like an Android build, but that’s to be expected of a company that hasn’t used Windows Phone before and doesn’t have any plans to do so in the future.
One nugget of information is that the battery is removable, something that recent Motorola devices like the Moto G and Moto X currently don’t support, so we wonder if we’re looking at some sort of device destined for emerging markets to stand alongside the Moto G and Moto E. No matter what though, it’s nice to see Motorola working on new devices, and while there’s still a chance that this could turn out to be the Moto X+1 there isn’t any support for LTE onboard, another hallmark of a device for emerging markets.
