Samsung is a large, powerful and rich corporation, but lately they have been running their business like a bunch of schoolgirls – no offense intended toward schoolgirls – picking out a dress for their first prom. They seem to be running their business in a knee-jerk kind of fashion and are showing no clear strategies for the future – or the present for that matter. It is like they live in a foreign country (yes, I know they do) and have no idea what the majority of buyers in the U.S. and other developed countries are looking for in a new smartphone. After we cried out for real changes and innovations in the Galaxy S5, Samsung turned around and gave us the same device with incremental improvements…and it looks like we could see the same thing happen with the release this September 3 of the new Galaxy Note 4…and that will be a real shame.
Our source claims that executives at one of Samsung’s largest parts supplier said that Samsung is racing to get the new Galaxy Note 4 out in time to compete with the new Apple iPhone 6 – rumored to have both a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model – coming out at the same time. Samsung is obviously nervous about some Galaxy Note owners running into the ‘Apple Orchard’ to try out their version of a phablet. They commented: “Samsung will hold an event to announce the Note 4 on Sept. 3, just few days before this year’s IFA trade fair in Berlin, Germany ― Europe’s biggest technology exhibition.”
In an effort to keep current Galaxy Note owners interested and to entice new buyers, Samsung Electro-Mechanics Chief Financial Officer Kwon Young-noh said, “Samsung Note 4 will have far better specifications than the Galaxy S5 smartphone.” The Electro-Mechanics division of Samsung is tasked the job of supplying the camera modules to Samsung Electronics – could this mean an real upgrade and improvement on camera in the Note 4?
They tell us that the Galaxy Note 4 will continue with a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a real metal frame this time around. There will also be a curved version at the IFA show, but it will not be for mass consumption. It will be powered by a Qualcomm processor and will “definitely” support the fourth generation of LTE. An executive at Samsung’s software partner based in Korea claims, “The Note 4 will be the first smartphone to incorporate an ultraviolet sensor. The sensor can measure UV radiation and offer index levels to Note 4 users inside the ‘S Health’ application.” That should be about as popular as the Heart Rate Monitor in the Galaxy S5 – boring!
I am a Galaxy Note 3 user and I simply love my device – I had the Note 2 as my daily driver before – but if Samsung thinks that an UV Sensor is what we are looking for, they will be dead wrong again – we want a QHD display, a 64-bit Octa-core processor, advanced LTE features, VoLTE capabilities, a lighter version of TouchWiz and we want it all wrapped up in a sexy body…and if they cannot deliver this after the failure of the Galaxy S5 to capture our imaginations, then they deserve those decreased sales and profits.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and voice your opinions of the next Galaxy Note 4 – what do you want to see in their next generation phablet…as always, we would love to hear from you.
