NPR today launched a new audio application that contains a stream of public radio news and stories, which gets specifically curated just for you. The new app called NPR One is specifically tailored to the public radio news and stories that you want to hear, ranging from local content to news and radio stories from around the globe. The app will begin with the latest headlines so you can catch up on what’s currently a hot topic, than it moves to hand crafted content and flows through stories that will matter to you. You also have complete control to pause, play, rewind or skip ahead so if you need or want to maneuver through content you have the capability to do so. You can also just hit the play button and let the stories flow through and let NPR One control the flow of audio being streamed.
NPR One wants to make sure you stay on top of any of the content you’re interested in, which is why it lets you access local, regional, national and international content. You can stay connected to the news and public radio that’s close to home even if your thousands of miles away, and when you’re done listening to what’s going on around your hometown, you can catch up on anything happening in your current location. NPR One also gives you a social capability, letting you share stories and news that you enjoy, with friends and family that you think might enjoy it too.
The user interface claims to be simple and intuitive, and quite honestly that’s exactly how it feels. There isn’t a lot of frills and special eye candy to draw your attention to the screen. It keeps things simple so you can focus on what’s being streamed instead. That isn’t to say that the UI doesn’t look nice as it still provides a clean aesthetic. You can also search for favorite shows, stations, and podcasts if you have something particular that you enjoy listening to. For what the app provides, it’s actually fairly well designed and should provide anyone with a great experience. The one thing that it appears to be missing is a widget, which might provide some easier access to allow you to listen to content quicker since you’d be able to access it directly from the homescreen. The app is free, and can be downloaded from the Play Store now.
