With all the rumors floating around that Nvidia has a new gaming device in the works, it can be hard to pin down exactly what they have planned and make some sense of it all. While the Nvidia Shield didn’t exactly wow as many consumers as Nvidia was probably hoping for,(let’s be honest, there were some things that could have been better executed, like initial price from launch, and more open compatibility with the gamestream feature)they are still on track to potentially release a successor to the shield, currently being referred to as the Shiled 2 although that name is only speculation since no word has been given officially from Nvidia on the matter. There’s also talk that may be developing a more gaming focused tablet, that could be running a Tegra K1 processor inside as well as plenty of other updated specs from their last tablet device, the Tegra Note 7.
A recent leak from the well known evleaks shows off what could be Nvidia’s gaming tablet in question, as he refers to it as the Nvidia Shiled Tablet, with a date of 2014 attached. Those are all the details mentioned so all we can really gather from the text is that it is supposedly going to be called the Nvidia Shield Tablet, and that it sounds like it’ll release sometime this year. It also appears to have dual front facing speakers, as well as a front facing camera that sits directly in the middle of the speakers on one end.
From the image, we can see that there are menus for “My Android Games” and “My PC Games”, so this tablet that Nvidia could be working on definitely seems to have a strong tie in to the gamestream service just like the Shield Gaming handheld, or at least, some tie in, allowing the capability to stream PC games like before. Here’s hoping that when and if this actually releases, that Nvidia has the gamestream feature opened up to support more hardware this time around. That is easily the best feature of the Shield, but hardware support is limiting leaving many would be customers who would love to take advantage of it but don’t run the latest Nvidia hardware. What isn’t known at this point is if this will be a device that Nvidia is looking to launch alongside or in addition to the Shield successor, or if it’s the successor to the Shield taking on a tablet design instead of the handheld like before. Would you buy this for your next tablet if the price was right and you could use the gamestream features?
