While Samsung is of course an international brand these days that’s known the world over for high-quality smartphones, enthusiasts in India have long complained about the Exynos processors used in their high-end devices, like the Galaxy S5. Not only does this mean a lack of LTE support, but in a lot of people’s eyes, an inferior experience with stutters and hiccups while using the device. Supporting 4G networks in emerging markets like India should be a focus for Samsung over the next year, as there is plenty of local competition willing to fill the gaps left by Samsung.
Now, there’s rumor that Samsung might be launching the same Snapdragon 801 powered Galaxy S5 that’s used throughout the West. The SM-G900I version of the device is rumored to be launching very shortly, complete with LTE support and the often more popular Snapdragon 801 processor. According to a Tweet from Manish Khatri of Mahesh Telecom, this variant of the Galaxy S5 is to cost RS 15,000 more than the Exynos version. As of right now though, it’s unclear if these are imports or stock from Samsung themselves.
Still, those looking for a premium device with 4G LTE will welcome the introduction of this Galaxy S5. Even though LTE is off to a slow start in India, with the likes of Aircel slowly expanding, it’s definitely going to be an important area for Samsung to work their way into. After all, 4G isn’t just for the West and as we’ve seen in China, just because a market is late to the party, doesn’t mean it should be ignored. An increase of RS 15,000 over the original price though is fairly steep so, what do you think? Is it worth it for an arguably better processor and 4G support you might even be able to use yet?
