We’ve been seeing all kinds of leaks for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition over the past few months. Heck, even Google leaked it out by putting a picture of the Galaxy S5 on the Galaxy S4 page. But so far it’s not been made official, which kinda sucks, as I’m sure there are a lot of people that would love to have one. Having that kind of hardware on stock Android would be amazing, I think.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 was announced back in February and launched in April. It features a 5.1-inch 1920×1080 resolution Super AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB, 16MP camera on the back, 2.1MP front-facing shooter, and a 2800mAh battery inside. It’s also running Android 4.4.2 with a newer version of Touchwiz that makes everything flat, and a bit smoother. But there’s still a ton of features and stuff packed into their skin. So imagine that hardware with stock Android on it? Especially KitKat since it’s optimized for devices with as low as 512MB of RAM. It would be pretty amazing right?
Hopefully we see the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition pretty soon. Although I wouldn’t hold my breathe, as I’m sure Samsung is going to launch it later on so they can sell the regular Galaxy S5 as much as possible. Since they really don’t care if we buy a Galaxy S5 and root it then throw CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android on the device. As long as we buy it, Samsung is happy. And that basically goes for any manufacturer. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the Galaxy S5 finally does make it to the Google Play store and how much it costs, as Google Play Editions have historically been pretty expensive.
