Samsung is the king of marketing, we all know that. And that’s a big reason why they’ve sold so many devices over the past few years. In fact, they spend more on marketing each year than most of the other OEMs make in profit each year. Which is pretty crazy, but also makes it tough for anyone to compete with Samsung since they spend so much on marketing each year. The Galaxy S5 is no different, they’ve been releasing commercials for that flagship left and right, which is what we’d expect from Samsung. So it’s not much of a surprise. But their latest commercial is aimed at Galaxy S3 owners and attempting to get them to upgrade to the Galaxy S5. As most of them should be coming up on the end of their 2-year contract pretty shortly. Although you have to remember that the Galaxy S3 didn’t launch in the US until late Summer, of 2012.
There are two commercials. One is talking about the differences in cameras between the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S3 features a 8MP camera while the Galaxy S5 has a 16MP camera. Quite the jump in just two years, right? The second one is about performance. Where they compare the battery life to each other as well as gameplay. They even show off Ultra Power Saving Mode, which a lot of people probably use quite a bit. It’s a cool feature and all, but I rather use my phone for it’s features than to turn all of it off, right?
I think this is the first time where an OEM has attempted to get people to upgrade so openly from a specific device to another device. But Samsung knows that those two-year contracts on the Galaxy S3 are up or are almost up. So it’s definitely a smart idea to do this. How many of you are still rocking the Galaxy S3?
