Yesterday we ran an article showing off the first leaked pictures of Sony’s upcoming flagship, the Z3. Naturally, when one leak occurs, you are pretty much guaranteed that the floodgates have opened and more leaks will follow. Which brings us to today’s news of more pictures and more details of the alleged Z3 finding their way onto the internet.
Today’s photos show the side, top and bottom profiles, and you can see that Sony have tweaked their design, with the sides of the Z3 being much more curved than the rather boxy Z2. Hopefully, this should make the Z3 easier to hold, without the sharp corners digging into the hand. Although I have to admit that I preferred the Z2 cosmetically.
In the audio department, it appears than stereo speakers have been kept, with speaker cut-outs top and bottom on the front of the device. If you look at the photos you will be able to see the flaps that cover the Micro-SD card, micro-SIM and Micro-USB slots on the sides of the device, as well as the magnetic connector which means you can bypass the micro-USB slot altogether when charging on Sony’s proprietary dock. You will also notice the open 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the phone. Why doesn’t the headphone jack need a cover I hear you ask? Because the opening has been treated with a special coating that doesn’t allow water or other substances to interfere with its operation.
On to the camera, and at first glance it seems that Sony have been lazy, by including the same 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor with G Lens. It should be noted though that this is probably just one of many prototypes, and the level of hardware used in the prototypes will change as the more advanced components become available. So, should we be up in arms that the same camera sensor as the Z2 is also present in this Z3 prototype? Nope. But it’s worth keeping an eye out for in any forthcoming leaks, of which you know will be frequent in the run up to the IFA being held from 5 – 10 September in Berlin (just 55 days away).
Just looking at the main picture, if you look at the bottom left of the Z3’s display, it looks like Sony have included their ASF (Anti-Scratch-Film) on the display, probably front and rear, which the person holding the phone has interfered with a little. If so, I’m sure at some point after the launch we will be running a guide on how to remove it.
Was it really only February that Sony announced their Z2 flagship? Just four months later and here we are running articles that are covering leaks of the possible Z3. Wow, Sony don’t hang about do they! Of course, it could turn out that this is just another variant of the Z2. Time will tell. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments or on our Google plus page.
