Description: Frogman2 is a simple game for Android smartphones and tablets that puts you in the shoes – or is that flippers – of Frogman and asks you to swim past Blowfish, avoid Sharks that are out to eat you whole and swim on through to get a high-score. Like other games out there, you’re award a point each time you avoid a wave of sea creatures and there are always a lot of them to deal with. With a small in-app purchases, you can use the Speargun to take sharks out of the equation and there’s also a Blue Shield mode that gives you invincibility, great for littler players and those looking to get used to the patterns of incoming critters. Let’s take a closer look shall we?
How it Works: First of all, you’ll need to download Frogman2 from the Play Store, then you’re ready to play. The game is designed primarily for phones, and as such there is a small window which you can blow up to full screen.
To find out how to play the game, which is very simple all you need to do is hit the help bubble.
When playing, it’s pretty simple, but the amount of critters to dodge does make things a little more difficult.
If you choose to pay for the in-app purchase (at $0.99) then you’ll get the Speargun, which can be used to attack sharks that are in your way. This should help you get a higher score when playing.
A nice addition for those younger players and those looking to get familiar with the patterns is the blue shield mode which gives the player invincibility.
This blue shield mode makes it easier for younger players to enjoy the funny sound effects as the Frogman climbs the waters, and it’s also great for little ones to just enjoy the gameplay. However, your high scores won’t be saved in this mode, which is good as that’d be cheating when you think about it.
Opinion: Frogman2 has a good deal of charm going for it, and we’re sure that younger players will find the fart sounds a lot of fun and it’s nice to play something that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Still, that doesn’t quite make up for the poor visuals in Frogman2, which look particularly dated on a Full HD display with jagged edges and low-resolution assets. Having said that though, the Flappy Bird inspired gameplay works fairly well here and while I can’t see this being a gkame for those hardcore gamers out there, it’s nice to have something like this that parents and kids can enjoy together. There are no ads to contend with either, which makes that small in-app purchase a little easier to swallow as well.
Ratings
- Speed (4/5) – No complaints for speed here, Frogman2 runs pretty well on tablets as well as smartphones.
- Theme (3/5) – The sound effects will put a smile on your face and make little ones giggle, but there’s not much to look at, but the developer is working to improve things.
- Features (4/5) – We’ve played Flappy Bird before and even though the overall formula is getting a little stale these days, the addition of more creatures to avoid and the speargun do add a little something extra to the already addictive gameplay.
- Overall (3.5/5) – With some much-need high-resolution assets included, Frogman2 would certainly look a lot better, but little ones will no doubt find more than enough to enjoy here.
Pros
- Easy to pickup and play, with very few controls to remember.
- No ads to deal with, which is a nice touch.
- A nice, lighthearted game for little ones above anything else, which is nice to see.
- Speargun does add a little something else to the mix.
Cons
- Graphics are of very low-resolution and need to be replaced with high-resolution assets, which the dev is working on.
- No matter how it’s dressed up, this still feels very much like a Flappy Bird game.
Conclusion: Let’s face facts here, most gamers aren’t going to rush out to download Frogman2 because of the graphics and Flappy Style gameplay; however, it can be very enjoyable for the casual or younger gamer. However, for those younger players in your household, Frogman2 is a colorful, not too difficult to play, lighthearted game that will put a smile on their face and buy you a little bit of peace and quiet. The sound effects are fun, the graphics – while pretty low-resolution – are colorful to look at and your little ones should find a lot to love about Frogman2
