The Google I/O Conference a week ago really put Android Wear on the map – not only giving us a lot more information about the Wearable’s OS, but also taking orders for BOTH the Samsung Gear Live and the LG G Watch, which are using Android Wear. Being a ‘NOW’ generation, both the U.S. and UK were not really given any definite ship dates, other than possibly this week. Now, we found out that MobilFun is advertising the black model as ‘In-stock’ and ready to ship today if you place your order by 6PM…for $270.99, while the white model is ‘Available for pre-order.’ The Google Play Store has the black or white version for $229.00 and set to leave the warehouse by July 3…incidentally, the Samsung Gear Live will set you back $199.00 and has a shipping date scheduled for July 8.
Google really made a smart move by designing Android Wear as an operating system specifically geared towards wearables. It offers consistency and uniformity and helps take the programming work out of the equation for the smartwatch manufacturer. Google was even able to get Samsung onboard with a new model right out of the gate alongside the LG G Watch. With Samsung already doing their own Android watch and their own Tizen watch, I am happy to see them also adopt the Android Wear version – and I doubt very much we will see a speck of TouchWiz on the Gear Live smartwatch.
The LG G Watch can be used with any smartphone running Android 4.3 or higher and you can always visit g.co/WearCheck from your phone to see if it is compatible. Simply download the Android Wear App from the Play Store to your smartphone to get started. Android Wear will help organize your information and it will even suggest what you are going to need – such as an umbrella if there is rain in the forecast. If you are at the airport, it will update you on arrival and departure times and gate information. Just ask it, “Ok Google,” followed by your question and get an immediate response or use “Ok Google” text Jake or “Ok Google” and tell your Android Wear watch to schedule an appointment.
Please hook up with use on our Google+ Page and let us know if you ordered you new LG G Watch and when they told you it would ship or arrive…as always, we would love to hear from you.
