Worldwide Android Smartphones and Tablets 07/18/14 – Xiaomi Hits India, Galaxy S5 Mini and More!

Xiaomi Officially Launch in India with the Mi3, RedMi and RedMi Note

The big story this week was the launch of Xiaomi in India. Not only did the Chinese giant open an official channel for their devices in India, but they arrived with a splash, talking to local media and partnering up with big giant Flipkart. At the very top of the ladder, Xiaomi have launched the Mi3, complete with a 5-inch Full HD display and Snapdragon 800 for just RS 13,999. Meanwhile the RedMi 1S is available for just RS 6,999 and its bigger brother for RS 9,999. There’s plenty of news surrounding Xiaomi’s Indian launch on the site as well.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Mini Goes Up for Pre-Order in Poland

The Galaxy S5 Mini is designed to be a cutdown, more affordable version of the Galaxy S5 and it does just that, with the same sort of software and design as its bigger brother with a fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor to boot. Now, the device is slowly making its way through Europe and is available for pre-order in Poland for roughly 1,900 Polish zloty.

The Ramos K100 is an Octa-Core Tablet with Voice Calling

Voice calling tablets have gotten more and more popular over the years, but the Ramos K100 takes things to another level, with a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 display and a MediaTek MT6592 octa-core CPU and 2GB of RAM. It’s designed to last throughout the day and with a 7,500 mAh battery we imagine it’d do just that. Of course, the Ramos brand isn’t known for its high-quality so this might not be the all-in-one you’ve been looking for. With no official pricing just yet, the K100 is set to go on sale towards the end of July in China.

Alcatel One Touch Pop C2 to Cost €79 in the Netherlands

The Alcatel line of devices are known for being fairly cheap and affordable, and the One Touch Pop C2 is no different. It’s recently launched in the Netherlands, with a 4-inch 800 x 480 display, a dual-core 1.3 Ghz processor, just 512MB of RAM and 4GB of expandable storage. While the 3-megapixel rear-facing camera and Android 4.2 add to the device’s cheap appeal, it is just €79 from Phone House in the Netherlands. At that sort of price, this is an excellent first-time smartphone or just a backup, we guess it helps that it’s colorful.

Obi Launches the Octopus S520 with Android 4.4 and HD Display for RS 11,990

Obi has launched a 5-inch 720p device with the Octopus S520 and it’s one of their first smartphones to hit the market. While it has a little bit of the iPhone look about it, it runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat and uses a 1.7 Ghz MediaTek MT6592. There’s an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera here as well as dual-SIM support all for just RS 11,990. That’s not too bad a price, but the 1,800 mAh battery could be much better here.

Gigabyte Gsmart Mika M2 Launches in Taiwan

The Mika M2 is just another device in Gigabyte’s Gsmart range but it’s got some decent specs to it. Running Android 4.4 KitKat, the 5-inch 720p device is powered by a quad-core MediaTek CPU and features a 2,000 mAh battery under the hood as well. One of the main attractions however, is not the up-to-date version of Android, but the 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Hopefully this won’t be too expensive throughout Taiwan as Gigabyte is a fairly decent name in computing.
