Xiaomi has been a pretty popular name over here in the US for quite some time now. And that’s not because they sell a boatload of devices over here, but because Xiaomi recently picked up a Google exec. That’d be Hugo Barra. Since Hugo announced he was heading to China to work at Xiaomi, we’ve all been keeping an eye on this company as we knew they’d be doing something special soon. We were hoping that they’d be expanding into North America soon, and while that hasn’t happened just yet, they have expanded into other areas, outside of China.
This week, we’re getting word of an event that Xiaomi is putting on next week for their first metal smartphone. In fact, the invites they sent out were made in steel. This one is likely the Mi4, and has been slated to sport a 5-inch 1080p FHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. It’s also expected to retail for about CNY1,999 which translates to about $322 USD. Which is a pretty good price for these specs. It’s definitely a phone to keep your eye on. But then again it is going to be running MIUI on there, like just about every other Chinese smartphone over there. MIUI v6 is said to be launching on the Mi4 next week, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens here. For a lot of people, MIUI was the first ROM they flashed, for the rest it was probably CyanogenMod.
It’ll be interesting to see all the details of the Xiaomi Mi4, as their phones are usually top notch but pretty cheap. I just really wish they’d bring this to the US already, as I know a lot of people are definitely interested in Xiaomi’s products. How many of you would be interested in the Xiaomi Mi4?
