Earlier today in Beijing, the Chinese giant Xiaomi announced their latest and greatest flagship, the Mi 4. For a company that has risen from pretty much nothing over the past 5 years or so, it’s surprising to see the company launch devices of the caliber. Still, the Mi 3 was – and still is – an excellent device, even without factoring in how much it costs. The Mi 4 obviously features beefier specs, with a more powerful Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM, but what about its price tag? Thankfully, Xiaomi didn’t wait too much longer after having announced the phone to let everyone know how much it costs.
For 16GB of storage, the Mi 4 will cost 1,999 Yuan which is roughly $320 US, jumping up to 64GB of storage, the Mi 4 will then cost 2,499 Yuan which works out as somewhere in the region of $400 US. So, once again Xiaomi have managed to deliver a stunning device at a pretty attractive price tag. It seems that the omission of, or rather the choice not to use a QuadHD panel has helped Xiaomi keep the price down. However, this has led to a device with a 5-inch display in an incredibly compact body. Something that will help Xiaomi stand out in the Chinese market, which is awash with smartphones the size of small tablets.
As for when you get your hands on the Mi 4, the Chinese giant has said that the China Unicom version will be available as early as the end of this month, with other variants hitting China in August. Other markets, including 4G variants of the device are said to be available in September, which means those in India might be able to get the Mi 4 before the end of the year. Unlike their previous product launches, it seems that Xiaomi is keen to have a stockpile of these devices available with 1 Million units to be produced in its first two months. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if this latest “sold out” fairly quickly as well.
