5.98-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 Gets Discovered In China's Certification Center

Samsung released a Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 mid-range phablets about a year ago. Mega 5.8 is sporting a 5.8″ display 960 x 540 in resolution (which is kind of low considering the screen size), 1.5GB of RAM and Broadcom’s 1.4GHz dual-core chip. The device has 8GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 64GB) and a rear-facing 8MP shooter along with the 1.9MP front-facing camera. The 6.3″ model is rocking a 6.3″ 720p screen (1280 x 720), 1.5GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.7GHz dual-core processor. Camera’s are the same as in the 5.8″ model, while this device has 2 storage options, 8 and 16GB, also expandable. Both were released with Android 4.2.2 pre-installed and are now upgradeable to the latest version of the OS.

For some time now we’ve been hearing rumors about Galaxy Mega’s successor. First it’s alleged benchmarks showed up and then a possible Mega 2 device visited the FCC about a month after that. Those benchmarks revealed a part of the specifications for this device. It was said to carry a Snapdragon 410 64bit processor while sporting a 5.7″ screen on the front 720p in resolution. 2GB of RAM were also mentioned along with the 8GB of internal storage and 2 cameras, 12MP rear-facing and 5MP front-facing ones. Android KitKat would be OS of choice according to the benchmark.

New information popped up on the Galaxy Mega’s successor. Phone Arena discovered the device in the China’s Telecommunications Equipment Certification Center’s database along with its specifications, most of them anyway. The model in question is SM-G7508Q, it is expected to have a similar model number when it gets launched globally. The specifications differ ever so slightly than the ones picked up from a previous benchmark and which are listed above this paragraph. The Chinese certification’s data says it will sport a 5.98″ with a 13MP camera instead of a 12MP one. Everything else was spot on, 64bit 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable) along with an Android 4.4.2 KitKat pre-installed. The dimensions of the device are said to be 163.6 x 84.9 x 8.6mm.

No word on the release date just yet, but when we found out more you’ll be the first to know.
