Battery life is often an issue with our electronics, but it is getting better and better. One of the places that it tends to be a little more iffy is with laptops although there are some that have pretty decent battery life and Chromebooks are among those. This latest Chromebook from Acer, the CB5-311 which sports an Nvidia Tegra K1 CPU on the inside, is rated at providing users with at least 13 hours of battery life on a single charge before needing to be plugged in. As a personal user of the HP Chromebook 14, I can say that I love the battery life that it has, but it is nowhere near 13 hours. Hopefully real world usage lives up to those promises on the Acer.
Besides the giant amount of battery life that this yet to be released Chromebook from Acer supposedly has on board, it’s listed as having a 13-inch display and with USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI out which is to be expected, and something else that many could have projected would be included is support for WiFi 802.11ac. It’s said that there will be three different models of this device, all varying by the screen. They will all be the same size, but there will be two models that are non-touch like most Chromebooks, one with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and one with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and there will also reportedly be a model with touchscreen as well, although it isn’t’ listed what the resolution of that model will be, so we can assume it’ll carry the same 1920 x 1080 pixel density.
The touchscreen enabled model is something that Acer has done before with other Chromebooks, so it’s not as surprising to see them do it here, but it is exciting to have it confirmed. Other specs include 4GB of RAM and a 32GB solid state drive for all your storage. If this Chromebook looks good and you are considering it for your next purchase, you’ll just have to wait like the rest of us to learn what it will cost, and when and where you can pick one up.
