Claure's Internal Memo to Sprint Employees Hint at Job Cuts

Just yesterday, Marcelo Claure took his post as CEO of Sprint. The nation’s third largest cellular carrier, succeeding Dan Hesse who was CEO of the company for the past 7 years. Claure has quite the task ahead of him though, of bringing Sprint back to where they should be. Under Hesse, Sprint has been bleeding customers every quarter for quite a while now. They were also losing money each quarter, except for Q2 2014, where they actually turned a profit. Claure sent out a memo to all Sprint employees, which basically hints that we are going to see some job cuts at Sprint soon, as he states “In the short term, our success will come from our focus on becoming extremely cost efficient and competing aggressively in the marketplace.” And I completely agree with that. Sprint will need to cut back on things and be very aggressive in the industry. Which is what T-Mobile has done and so far they’ve been relatively successful.

We’ve also received word that there is a company-wide meeting set for August 14th. So we might hear more about what’s going on inside Sprint on Thursday or Friday of this week. As the news will likely get leaked just like this internal memo did. Sprint does need quite a bit of change, and there’s word that Sprint is working on even cheaper price plans that are in testing now and should launch by the end of the year. I was looking at Sprint’s plans just yesterday, and they have gotten a lot cheaper since I had them in 2012, but T-Mobile is still cheaper. So it’ll be interesting to see these two get into a price war.

How many of you are excited to see what Claure can do with Sprint in the next couple of years? Let us know in the comments below.
