Motorola is going to be unveiling the new Moto X on Sept 4, but we already know a ton about it. A new FCC filing has confirmed some details for us, like the size of the screen. We had originally heard that the new Moto X was going to have a huge 5.9-inch display. Later rumors suggested that the screen size would be 5.2-inches, which is a little more palatable for those of us that don’t like giant phones.
This new FCC filing has the device at 149mm from corner to corner. That would mean the screen is indeed 5.9-inches. However, a closer look at the FCC document shows us that they are measuring the entire device from corner to corner, not just the display. The display should be more in the 5.2-inch to 5.5-inch range, which is exactly what we were expecting. The OnePlus One has a 5.5-inch display, as does the LG G3. The G3 has a lot smaller bezels and is fine for most people to use with one hand. The LG G2 has a 5.2-inch display and is also relatively easily one-handed. At 149mm, the overall size of the new Moto X falls in between the OnePlus One and the LG G3. Whatever the actual screen size, that puts it squarely into the category of large-screen smartphones that some of us love and some of us can’t stand.
The FCC filing also showed us that the Moto X will be coming to at least AT&T here in the US. The device had LTE bands compatible with AT&T’s network. We know it’s coming to Verizon as well. The new Moto X is going to be announced on Sept 4 alongside several other new Moto devices. The new Moto G is also going to be unveiled, and that phone is going to have a larger screen size too. The Moto 360 is finally going to be released, we hope, and there’s supposed to be some kind of a Bluetooth headset announced at the Motorola event on the 4th. We don’t know how that is going to integrate with the other devices. Alex is going to be live at the Motorola event, so we’ve got you covered.
