Samsung is used to making a lot of different types of smartphone variants. Their flagship Galaxy S5 line is no exception. We’ve seen the “Galaxy S5” brand used so many times after the launch of Samsung’s flagship that it kind of loses the point altogether. Galaxy s5 Mini, Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy S5 Neo… these are only a few smartphones that carry the “Galaxy S5” brand and are not the flagship device itself, with the exception of the Active perhaps which is a buffed up Galaxy S5. Some people don’t mind this and others kind of resent Samsung because of it. Either way, Samsung is still coming strong with this policy.
Not only did they release a ton of mid-range “Galaxy S5” devices but they announced a Galaxy S5 LTE-A for Korea last month. This device is basically a better specced S5, which again defeats the purpose of calling the S5 a flagship phone. As a reminder, S5 LTE-A is sporting a Snapdragon 805 and 3GB of RAM alongside an Adreno 420 GPU. 16MP ISOCELL camera is on the back and on the front you’ll find a 2MP shooter. Android 4.4.2 OS is coming out of the box. As for the display, we’re talking about a beautiful Super AMOLED QHD panel 2560 x 1440 (576ppi) in resolution.
Not many people thought this device will come to Europe, but it seems that will happen after all. SamMobile reports that SM-G901 or Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A for Europe got benchmarked on GFXBench. The device is similar to the Korean version, but not quite the same. Unlike the Korean version, this model will sport a 5.2″ 1920 x 1080 screen instead of a QHD panel. As far as differences go, this device will come with the latest version of Android out of the box, Android 4.4.2 and 2GB of RAM (compared to the 3GB in the Korean variant). The main camera is for some reason listed as a 15MP one, but we think this device will sport the same 16MP ISOCELL shooter which you can find on both the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 LTE-A (Korean model). According to benchmarks Snapdragon 805 and Adreno 420 GPU are together almost twice as fast when compared to Adreno 330 and a Snapdragon 801 used in the original Galaxy S5. This of course doesn’t have to mean that the device is actually that fast when you’re using it, but still it shows the difference between the processors/GPUs. No word on the release date just yet.
