Gigabyte is one of the smaller Android manufacturers, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t make good products. November 2013 was the last time Gigabyte updated their lineup, and today they are doing a nearly full refresh of their lineup with five new Android-powered smartphones in the GSmart series. This updated lineup covers a range of phones from the super budget-minded T4 to the flagship GX2, and everything in between. Starting from the low end and working our way up, the Gigabyte GSmart T4 packs a small 4-inch 480 x 800 pixel display, a dual-core MediaTek processor, and a pretty standard 5MP camera for an entry-level phone anymore.
Bringing up the lower mid-range we have the Arty A3 which is packing a 1.3GHz MediaTek processor, a larger 5-inch display at 960 x 540 resolution, 1 GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a 2,000 mAh battery. The Mika M2 is a step up from the Arty A3 and features the same processor and battery size, but bumps the 5-inch panel up to a 720p resolution, features double the storage at 8GB inside, and moves the camera way up to 13MP.
On the higher end we’re looking at the GX2, which is the only phone in Gigabyte’s lineup featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. It also features a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP camera on the back, 2GB of RAM inside and 8GB of internal storage space. A 2,200 mAh battery is inside, which should last you most of the day on a Snapdragon 400, and it’s a very light 135 grams with dual-SIM capabilities. The highest end of all the new Gigabyte GSmart phones is the Guru, which features the same 5-inch 1080p panel as the GX2, but bumps the processor up to a 1.5GHz MediaTek quad-core, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The same 13MP camera found on the GX2 and the Mika are present on the Guru as well, and the battery is bumped way up to 3,000 mAh, but so is the weight at 165 grams. Thankfully the Guru’s weight should pay off with a 12 hour rated talk time.
All these new Gigabyte phones come preloaded with the latest version of Android, Android 4.4 KitKat, which is a really big surprise since they feature MediaTek processors, which generally only ship with Android 4.2 on board. Check out the gallery below for all the press shots.
