Chromebooks definitely became a thing in today’s market. Their sales numbers keep on rising and even though they’re not suited for everyone, vast majority of people find them adequate for their daily needs. As a reminder, Chromebooks run Chrome OS, which is basically a cloud based OS. If you rely heavily on Chrome browser and its extensions, while you find no need for video editing or installing PC programs in general, Chromebooks might be your thing. If however you cannot live without your PC programs and / or require them for work, you should stay away from Chromebooks, or at least use a full-fledged computer next to it. Why did they become so popular? Well, price definitely has something to do with it, Chromebooks are generally extremely affordable (Chromebook Pixel aside) while being quite useful to a vast majority of people, as I mentioned above.
NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 seems to be the hot stuff when it comes to mobile processors these days. There’s been some talk that the upcoming tablets might sport it, like the Nexus tablet for example, while Acer has already announced their Chromebook 13 CB5 model which sports this processor. It seems like HP is ready to do the same thing, according to listings at a couple of different online stores HP has a Tegra K1 Chromebook of their own ready to go. This device will sport a 14-inch 1366 x 768 display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, webcam and a 37Wh battery will also be a part of the package it seems along with NVIDIA Tegra K1 “Logan” processor. No word on pricing at this time. HP already has a 14-inch Chromebook with Intel Celeron 2955U Haswell processor inside which comes in 2 and 4GB variants.
Considering how well Chromebooks are selling, it is no wonder a lot of OEMs create their own versions Chrome OS-based devices. Acer, Asus, HP, Toshiba, Dell… you can find a lot of different brands pushing Chromebooks to the market and choose which size and specifications fit you best. Whether you like a smaller 11-inch models or a bigger 14-inch versions, they’re all available. Sadly only in specific markets at the moment. Do you own a Chromebook or intend to purchase one in the future?
