A month ago, we heard about a phone, courtesy of the now-retired Evan Blass a.k.a. @evleaks, called the HTC Desire 510, and its arrival on Sprint’s network in the future. Well, it’s been a month, and we may have something to say about this phone. It comes from one @upleaks on Twitter, who has been leaking great information for a little over three months now, and the leak is as follows. “HTC A11(New Desire Variant): 4.7″ FWVGA, Snapdragon410 MSM8916, 5MP/VGA, Android 4.4.2 with Sense 6.0 for Desire” Great to hear about this phone finally, but here are some dots to connect. Last month, we covered a device called the Desire 510, which had yet to be announced and still does, coming to Sprint in the United States in the future. Well, with this unnamed A11 and its mid-range specifications, we can probably link A11 and Desire 510 into the same device.
What’s more is the processor. Yes, we see it has a ‘MSM8916’ from Qualcomm which is the Snapdragon 410, a processor from last December, which is eight months exactly from the time of writing, and seven months before the leak from @evleaks regarding the Desire 510’s Sprint-bound condition. Odd coincidences… Regardless, a 400 series chip? That’s it? No, not completely. This chip is special, but here are its specifications first. It can likely run 1.2 to 1.4 Ghz across its four cores, and contains an Adreno 306 GPU. It’s also got LTE, category 4, so it’ll work in U.S. markets as well as DC-HSPA+ connectivity. Here’s the special part. 64-bit. This is Qualcomm’s first 64-bit SoC (system-on-a-chip) ever, and that’s what unique about this phone.
A mid range device, especially a HTC Desire-family phone, getting the first 64-bit Snapdragon chip is a nifty and great bit of news. But also worth noting is that it is heading to the United States, and Sprint specifically, if the A11 and Desire 510 are one and the same, is even better. What do you think? Is it good to see 64-bit finally hitting stateside? What device in the coming months do you hope to see a 64-bit processor on? If the A11 is the Desire 510, and it does come to the United States, would you consider a mid-range smartphone with its 64-bit chip or continue on with your flagship with its 32-bit architecture? Let us know.
