It’s not exactly a secret LG used to make similar device to Samsung, in every way actually. For a long time the company was known for it, same thing goes for its software. Many features from Samsung’s TouchWiz UI ended up in LG’s devices, under different names and slightly tweaked though. Then LG started to differentiate, at least as far as design is concerned back when they introduced LG Optimus G. Then came the LG G2 and this year’s LG G3, which is extremely successful already and is selling like crazy all over the world. They even tweaked their UI in order to differentiate when software is concerned as well. Unfortunately it seems LG is not ready to give up on some bad habits just yet.
LG introduced LG G3 Stylus recently, which looks like the G3 but its specifications are… well, not up to par. This device also has a stylus, as its name suggests, though this is not a high-end smartphone (or a stylus) like Samsung’s Galaxy Note line is. LG G3 Mini is probably also going to make an appearance in the future and today we bring you some more news, which unfortunately suggest LG wants to milk the G brands some more with not so great devices. I have nothing against a low or mid-range devices, quite the contrary, but it would be nice if they’d separate their brands when releasing such devices (like they did with LG L Bello and L Fino).
LG announced a new mid-range device named LG Gx2, not to be confused with the G2X which has been out for a while now. LG Gx2 is sporting a 5.7-inch IPS 720p (1280 x 720) display, a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and 1.5GB of RAM. The device comes with 8GB of internal storage and 3,200mAh battery. On the back of it you can find an 8-megapixel camera, which interestingly enough has laser autofocus like the G3, and 1.3-megapixel shooter on the front. Gx2 will come with LTE and LTE-A support to South Korean market soon, I doubt it will leave Asia though, we’ll see.
This device reminds me an awful lot of Samsung Galaxy Mega, not because of its design but because of its specs and screen size to resolution ratio. It seems like LG continues to use the same tactic like Samsung, push anything you can think of out to the market and see what will people buy. I really don’t like this trend myself to be honest, but it is what it is. Thoughts?
